Te Rōpū Pīpīwharauroa
Whāia te iti kahurangi ki te tūohu koe me he maunga teitei.
Grades 2 to 4
Te Rōpū Pīpīwharauroa is the youngest rōpu within Ngā Manu Pūtohe. It serves as an entry point for many of our kaihaka and has been thoughtfully created to nurture and support our younger members.
This space is designed to foster a sense of belonging, grounding, and aroha, encouraging tamariki to feel welcome and valued as they begin their kapa haka journey.
A typical day with us begins with karakia or inoi and a mihi to all who are present.
Once our formalities are complete, we move into a range of engaging activities aimed at developing skills not only in kapa haka but across the wider scope of Te Ao Māori. These include interactive games, vocal and physical warm-ups, drills to enhance movement, footwork, poi, and mau rākau, as well as learning sessions to strengthen their mātauranga, pronunciation, and reo.
With this, we offer therapeutic support grounded in both traditional and modern day cultural practices, working alongside each tamaiti at their own pace to co create a safe and nurturing environment.
Our kapa haka sessions feature a mix of well known waiata and original compositions created specifically for our group. Our tamariki also have opportunities to collaborate on creating actions, ensuring they feel a deeper sense of ownership and connection to the mahi.
Above all, our goal is to cultivate a safe, supportive, and enjoyable environment.
We do not expect the kids to be the best kaihaka there is, but rather to become the best versions of themselves.
