Koroneihana

2025

NGA MANU HUIA

Whaata Māori

One of the many opportunities was visiting Whakaata Māori. There they were given the honour of a Pōwhiri and a guided tour of their impressive studio.

Our rangatahi were blessed to perform right there at the studio!

Pohara Marae

For the duration of our haeranga, our rōpu were given the opportunity to stay on Pohara Marae in the heart of Waikato.

It was such an honour for our rangatahi. There, they were exposed to and immersed in tikanga and kawa that was new to many amongst us.

They were kaimahi in the kitchen, wharemoe and wharepaku.

An experience that, back home, is taken for granted.

Pohara is located in a peaceful valley surrounded by impressive rock formations and teaming with native birds. We are so lucky to have spent time here!

Whakarewarewa Living Māori Village

We were privileged to be given a guided tour of Whakarewarewa Living Maori Village in Rotorua.

Able to whakapapa back to their Te Rarawa tupuna who first occupied the valley in 1325.

Our tour guide and resident of Whakarewarewa, taught us all about their beautiful way of life utilising the geothermal wonders for cooking, bathing and heating.

Our rangtahi were even given the rare honour to perform at Whakarewarewa!

Koroneihana

Koroneihana 2025 is the first of Ngawai hono i te pō, what an honour to attend! We were present for Tainui Kawe Mate and National Kawe Mate, an incredible spiritual experience.

Our rangatahi were able to see te Kuini Māori, experience being on Tūrangawaewae Marae, watch some of their favourite Kapa Haka rōpu and try some Tītī and other kai reka. Enjoying being amongst their people.

We also met a few kanohi tino rongonui  and even got interviewed for Whakaata Māori... again!

What an epic journey. There are not enough words to express how important this haerenga was for our rangatahi.

Ngā Manu Huia came away, kua kī te manawa, kua kī te wairua hoki.

He mihi nunui ki nga kaiwhakahaere, ki te iwi kāinga, nā rātou i whakamana te kaupapa nei. He mīharo rawa atu.

Ka mau te wehi!
