Nga Manu Putohe
The name Nga Manu Putohe was inspired by our young people whose curiosity and passion to learn about their whakapapa, culture and ancestral knowledge.
Manu - Bird. Metaphor for growth, need to learn and develop their skills before old enough to leave the nest to achieve greater things.
Putohe - The action of being persistent, tireless and eager.
Our Story
Ngā Manu Pūtohe was founded in 2020 with a deep commitment to culture and revitilisation of Maori culture, community and the belief that every young person deserves the opportunity to learn who they are and where they come from.
What began as a kapa haka group has grown into a movement dedicated to creating positive pathways for young people that evolves beyond the stage.
Ngā Manu Pūtohe is more than an organisation. We are a whānau, a community, and a place where culture, opportunity, and belonging come together.

While Kapahaka remains an important part of who we are, our vision extends further. We deliver youth development programs, mentoring, cultural education, recreation activities, employment readiness workshops, community events, and cultural performances that empower young people to build confidence, develop life skills, and create positive futures for schools, organisations, government agencies and community groups.
